VIOLIN LESSONS
From the first musical steps to a lifelong love of music
At Vioolschool Voorburg – Den Haag, a passion for music and each student’s individual musical development are at the heart of my teaching. For more than 25 years, I have taught students of all ages with dedication and a personal approach — from young children starting at the age of three to adults in their eighties and beyond.
Violin teaching has a rich and longstanding pedagogical tradition. My lessons are rooted in this tradition, combining a solid technical foundation with a modern and highly individual approach.
♪ Every student is unique
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. Through many years of teaching, I have learned that no two students learn in exactly the same way. Each person has their own natural abilities, strengths and challenges, personality and musical preferences. Over more than 25 years of teaching, I have seen how differently students learn, grow and develop as musicians.
♪ Musical development and the joy of playing
Alongside internationally recognised method books and technical exercises that support musical and technical development step by step, I carefully select repertoire for each student according to their level, abilities, personality and musical interests.
One of the greatest joys of teaching is being able to guide each student in their musical development, regardless of age or level. It is deeply rewarding to see students grow, gain confidence and discover an ever greater enjoyment of music.
I believe it is important for students to enjoy playing the violin while developing the technique and musical skills they need to play beautifully and expressively.
I am especially pleased that many students choose to continue their lessons with me for many years. Some have studied with me for more than ten years, and others for fifteen years or longer.
My teaching is also international. I give online lessons to students both in the Netherlands and abroad, including in the United States and Japan. Although violin teachers are of course available locally, these students have chosen to continue their lessons with me online.
♪ For students who want to take their playing further
My students are also active in youth and school orchestras and chamber music ensembles, where they discover the joy of playing together and gain valuable musical experiences.
I also guide students who wish to prepare for competitions and auditions. Several of my students have won prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours (Regio West 2) and the Nederlands Vioolconcours (Iordens), while another was a finalist in the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Concours.
For students attending British or international schools, I also offer preparation for ABRSM exams. I have prepared a number of students for these exams, all of whom have passed.
I also have experience supporting students who take part in international school music programmes. One of my students was selected as concertmaster for an AMIS Honor Orchestra, for example.
Whether a student is preparing for an exam, audition or orchestral project, or simply wishes to take their playing to a higher level, I help each student develop their own musical voice, with attention to technique, musicianship, interpretation, stage presence and artistic development. I also encourage students to experience the inspiration and enjoyment that come from making music together with others.
